pci 6602 - using more than 2 counters for pulse generation

I am trying to control an experiment using pulse generation from a pci 6602 board. I was wondering if there is a way to generate pulses other than with the two general purpose counters (ND_COUNTER_0 and ND_COUNTER_1). I need to generate several pulses on different time bases. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Let me add on to this question, it seems there are other general purpose counters. I am using a NI BNC-2121 connection board to access my pci 6602 timing card. Is there access to these other counters through this connection? if not, how can i utilize these counters.

There is only direct BNC access to counters 0 & 1 on the 2121, but the other counter inputs and outputs are accessible via spring terminals (PFI8-31). There are some user BNC connections as well that can be accessed with spring terminals as well.

I hope this helps!

Hi ALL,

Yes, there is a way to generate  pulses other than  using counters.  you  can use  analog out - AO  square  wave generation. you can create finite pulses as well as continuous pulses. pls check your PCI card for any AO output availability. then sure u can achieve the pulses generation.

I have attached my example for you. check the channel, pulse rate(input), and desired frequency(output). let me know if u need any further help in this regard.

cheers.

Good suggestion lehigh, but the 6602 does not have analog input or output. You can either use the counter to create a pulse train or you can create a digital pulse train on your own by using software timing, and toggling the digital line.

Tanks David. I prefer harware timing than the software timing.

do you have any idea of how I can make my above example retriggerable. I want to retrigger the AO square wave finite pulse out. is there a way???
I KNOW we can retrigger finite pulses using counters but I want to know the same feasibility in the AO square wave output.

thanks

Lehigh,

Unfortunately, the hardware does not support this without using counters. Please see KB: 2IL8JEXA.
