scxi-1000, 1303, only takes readings when reset

Hi, we are using an scxi-1000 DAQ with an scxi-1303 block connected to a scxi-1101 module.
We have been using this setup to take readings for years!
Recently we noticed that we are not getting any readings.  While testing our virtual channels in Measurments and Automations, we do not get any readings, just that red "light" turns on.  We don't even get incorrect readings, which would indicate that the channel is open.  We simply get no readings.  We have noticed that if we reset the unit by pressing the Reset button on the scxi-1000, we start getting readings again.  However, when we turn the unit off and on again, we once again don't get any readings.  We are trying to figure out what the problem is and what the solution to that problem can be.  I talked to tech support and they suggested to try and update the driver.  I downloaded and installed the newest niDAQ and it did not solve our problem.

If anyone has any ideas as to how we should go about trouble shooting this problem, I would really appreciate to hear them.
You can email us at engineering@thermodyne.ca.  or post some input on this board.

Thank you all in advance.

Hi thermodyne-

You mention that you turn the SCXI chassis off and on and begin receiving bad readings; if you power cycle the unit there is no built-in mechanism to recover communication between the SCXI chassis and the DAQ driver.  In that case the only option is to perform a software reset of the chassis.

When you see the red light show up in MAX you should have the option to view the error code number.  Can you please provide that information?  It should make it easier to help diagnose the problem.

Thanks-

Unfortunately when I test the virtual channel and the red light shows up, I do not have the option to see the error code.  The details button right beside the light is grayed out.  I tried clicking on it anyway, and it said no error.

We have turned the unit off and back on again before and everything would work fine.  Now we can't seem to get any readings unless we press the "reset" button on the unit.

thermodyne,

I'm a little curious that the details button is greyed out but you still could click it and it gives you a popup saying no error.  Is this what is happening?  I would think that if the button is greyed out then it would not allow you to click it.  If this is what is happing you might want to post a screenshot of this happening.  You can take a screenshot by pressing the Print Screen key on the keyboard and then pasting the image into Paint.

Since you can't get the error code number from MAX you might be able to run some code and get an error code.  If you are using LabVIEW just open up an example program or a program that uses your hardware and create an indicator for the error wire.  If an error occurs then it should give you the error code and the source.  If you can get an error code it will help us troubleshoot the problem.

You mentioned you are using a SCXI-1101 module.  Are you sure it is an 1101 or is it an SCXI-1100?  Also what DAQ card are you using to connect to the SCXI chassis?

Have a great day,
