serial trigger on analog acquisition

Hi everyone,

i would like to start the analog acquisition on cDaq9178 as soon as a serial command has been sent.

I command a pilot valve in rs485 and the goal is to measure the response time of some mobile part of the valve. The displacement of this mobile components is measured with a laser sensor that in 4-20mA communicates with the cDAQ.

Do you know if it is possible to start the analog acquisition simultaneously with the serial command?

I think you already thought of this method. The sure way to measure time with the accuracy is to pull the signal from 485 loop back to one of your DAQ input. You can plot the input graph, and measure time with 100% accuracy this way. You do not need to concern with any delays in the hardware.
