Hi,
Could you go to the device manager on the laptop and find the USB device, right click on it and select uninstall. Once you have done that, plug in the device again, restart windows and let windows automatically install the driver.
Sometimes the power supplied by the laptop itself is not enough for the USB Device. Make sure that the laptop you have provides the correct power to run the USB device.
Also, could you please follow the steps in the following knowledgebase article and make sure that the device shows up under Measurement and Automation Explorer.
DAQ Assistant Says No Supported Devices Found
Sometimes the NI-DAQmx installation might be corrupt. If you open up Measurement and Automation Explorer and expand software, you should see NI-DAQmx listed there. Clicking on it will also show you the version number in the window on the right. Could you try uninstalling the driver and installing it again on the laptop.

Raajit

Be sure you are running at least NIDAQ8.3 on the machines. I had plugged in a USB-6251 under NIDAQ8 and the database became corrupted. When I upgraded to 8.3 I still could not see the USB device properly. A previous device was in the devices menu even though it was not there. I finally had to delete files in the MAX directory. When I rebooted the machine MAX recreated the files and the device was recognized, the ghost device was gone. The directory was C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MAX\Data
and the files were:
config3.mxd config2.mxs config3.mxs.bak mxsjar.ini

Hi,
You mentioned that your USB-6251 "does properly show up but does show up under the windows device manager." Can you explain this a bit more? Does anything show up for it under Windows device manager? Do you get any errors when going through the Windows popups for installing the driver software (when you connect the device).
If the device does not show up in Windows device manager under "Data Acquisition Devices" then the problem is related to how Windows is recognizing the device and not the MAX database.

OK,
So the device is properly recognized in Windows but does not show up in MAX. Please follow these instructions:
1) In Windows device manager, right click on the device and select "Uninstall"
2) Disconnect the USB device from your computer.
3) Shut down the computer and reboot into safe mode.
4) In Windows Explorer, go to C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MAX
5) Rename the "Data" directory to something else (i.e. Data_old)
6) Reboot your computer (regularly, not safe mode)
7) Reconnect your USB device
😎 Follow the installation menus on the screen and verify that the device now shows up in MAX.
Thanks,
Sal
