vibrating wire strain

How do I connect a Vibratin Wire Strain Gauge to labview. I currently have NI USB 9162, NI 9237 and NI9945 which I purchased for quator bridge two pin strain gauges originally.

The strain gauge I wish to attach is a Geosense product if that is of any help.

The 9237 will connect to full, half and quarater strain guages.

To connect to a vibrating wire strain guage you would need a

9474 to provide excitation,

9205 to measure responce,

9219 to measure temperaure and

to keep all this syncronised you will need a 4 or 8 slot cDAQ  (or cRIO)  chassis.

Can someone tell me how to make Daq MX task for Vibrating wire strain gage, i need to simulate data aquisition from Vibrating wire strain gage using cdaq 9178 with 9205 , 9239 and 9401 module. Thanks.

Daniel,

You can simulate a device in the Measurement and Automation eXplorer (MAX). Open MAX >> right click “Devices and Interfaces” >> create new... >> double click on simulated devices >> expand CompactDAQ chassis and select chassis (I would use 9178). Once this is done expand “Devices and Interfaces” >> right click the chassis >> configure simulated chassis >> select modules.

Please remember if you have questions regarding a different subject matter to create a new forum post!

Hey Daniel,

There is no way to make a VW task rignt now.   You will have to make a combination of ai and co task.     Depending on the type of sensor you have the setup will be different.

Have a look at the attached for an example of how it would look.

Hey Seamus,

Can you help me out with this. I have to measure Strains in Structural appications using Vibrating wire SG. Can you explain me exactly what output we get from a VW SG. Saying a Frequency output is not understandable as frequency will be a charecteristic of a signal which can be voltage current etc. Correct me if am wron somewhere. So what signal we get in VW SG. Also you said there's no vi for measureing the VW Strains. Can you explain it a bit more.

About the input for sensors is it a pulse you are trying to send by 9219 to the gauge which will excite it??

If you have any literature regardng VW SG's kindly share it here.

Should i go with 9205 and 9219 for doing my work.

Thanks

Yogesh
