Are Multisim serial numbers version specific?

Back in August 2017, I purchased the Education Edition of Multisim for a college course. I am now taking another college course that also requires the use of Multisim. The version I purchased back then was version 14.0. My question is are Multisim serial numbers version specific? In other words, would my serial number work with the latest version of Multisim or will it only work for the version I purchased?

That depends on the type of license you have. Before NI moved to subscriptions in 2020, the perpetual licenses they sold were only for the version that was active at the time of the purchase. For professional licenses you then could pay an MSP (maintenance support package) that would renew yearly and as long as you maintained that you did get the right to upgrade to the newest version. Once you stopped the MSP, the latest possible version you were entitled to activate was the one that was the most recent when the MSP ended.

With student licenses not usually being sold with MSP at all, I'm afraid your license will only be valid for the 2014 version that you bought back then.
