Bug Gerber-export UltiBoard10.1.197

Hello,

I'm using Ultiboard 10.1.197 (I know it's old but it did it's job so until now)

I've finished a last minute layout now I can't export the extended Gerber (nor the standard Gerber files), the progress bar freezes at approx. 95% with all copper related top layers (copper, soldermask etc. .. Silkscreen works). So I can actually export all needed gbr except top copper and top soldermask. It is design related, I can actually export any other design I made before. I have this problem only with this one single PCB.

Also the company that does our prototype boards excepts Ultiboard files, they were able to produce a PCB with the same .ewprj file.

Any idea for a work around?

Thanks!

headbroadcast,

Please email us directly or call into us (http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/nicc.call_me  - choose Customer Service line) as we can look at the file to see what's going on in the UB v10 package.   If you are not setup on our SSP (support & maintenance) we can make an exception for this type of thing to get you back on track with this design.   I am not aware of any 'quick' short cuts to get the file to export Gerber correctly again in the design except to have our Application Engineering team look at the file and determine the root cause (and likely rework the piece in the design that's causing the issue).

Since the PCB mfg company got it to work its likely been fixed in a more recent version.

Thank you for your continued support of our design tools!

Regards,

Pat Noonan

PS - I know v10 has appeared to be working for you up to this point, but if budget allows, there have been many new updates in both Multisim and Ultiboard since v10 that should make an upgrade worthwhile.   If you are a regular Ultiboard user I think you'll be interested in the 1500 additional standard SMT footprints included in Ultiboard and the better back/forward annotation in v11 and the new plane/polygon creation technique and the DXF import updates in v12, among other things.   Also in v11 we improved the layer pair routing/VIA placement creation using the hotkey "Q" - which now makes it extremely easy now to select 2 layer pairs (such as top / inner 1) and quickly manually route between those 2 layers by placing a VIA for quick connections between parts (this was my request and also my personal favorite new feature since v11).   🙂

If interested, our direct line in North America you can call into the NI office responsible for Multisim at (800) 263-5552.  If you are outside of North America, find your local sales office here.

I apologize in advance for the sales pitch.

Thanks Pat

I found the problem by deleting parts/polygons/wires individually. It turned out to be one tqfp48 footprint in 45° rotation (I do that sometimes for fun, it worked on other designs) .. I rotated it back to 0° and rerouted the part.

headbroadcast,

Ok, interesting...  part rotation, another favorite...   I do like doing this as well on larger pin count devices (at least you get the impression you have better fanout/route combination possibilities).

Thank you, If you see this again, please let us know.

Regards,

Pat
