Current regulator diodes such as J511

I can't seem to find these in the database - where are they - looking for a 4.7mA current regulator diode.

Thanks

Hello,

I wasn't able to find a CLD myself in multiSIM as part of our diode database, the parts are not very well described and you would have to know exactly for what part no. you are looking for, but I was also able to find a few resources on the available SPICE models for current limiting diodes. Also, If I'm not mistaken, a cld is composed of a current source, a resistor and capacitor (diagram below). This could be easily made in multiSIM.

Errm actualy they are components and are actually FETs with gate and source connected internally.  The J511 (which I know is old) was the one I was looking for yesterday.  Sure I can fake it with virtual parts but they don't go through to a board layout too well :).

I believe that the 1N5314 is an example of these?

Hi Dave,

Yes thats the one I was looking at for your circuit. You are correct about the JFET and components of a CLD. What I mentioned was the equivalent with a variable resitance/capacitance and a known current for the source, this would effectively do the same thing 🙂 (circuit equivalence, not component makeup or the build up of a CLD)

And I understand that it would not look the same as a circuit base schematics or pcbs, thats why I would refer to the spice models (from what i read of the datasheet it seems to be closely related to the J511 model, plus you can find the data sheet for the component online as well ). You can create the component in multiSIM using the SPICE code for the 1N5314 as you mentioned.

Hope it works out,

Howsabout adding these to the DB?

It's already been taken into account 😉 We have a lot of things we want to add and improve on but unfortunately we only have so many developers. More feedback from the community could help with these changes (read: demand).
