Dalmation,
To increase the resolution, go to Options >> PCB Properties, select the Grid & Units tab. Now, change all the following to 1 mil or to whatever minimum resolution you need:
Visible Grid, change the numeric field to the right.
Grid Step Name list, select Component Grid, change the Grid Step Value.
Grid Step Name list, select Copper Grid, change the Grid Step Value.
Grid Step Name list, select Via Grid, change the Grid Step Value.
Grid Step Name list, select SMD Grid, change the Grid Step Value.
Click Apply and OK to exit. You should now see a finer grid.

Thanks for that- that actually solves another problem I've had as well.
Once again- really appreciated.

I see what you are saying... I set it up as 0.1 mm resolution and I can gradually move the ruler on that resolution, however the display will only show digits 1 mm, and then 2 mm but not the intermediate precision like 1.1, 1.2, etc...
I check and apparently that display is not prepared to show digits of precision, I will make a note for R&D about this. In the meantime if you really want to see intermediate numbers on the display try switching to um instead of mm. However I would recommend to stick to mm to avoid any misinterpretation of data.
