Dummy vs Empty model

Solved!
Go to solution

I have some custom non-simulation parts that have a 'Dummy' model and others that just say empty.

How do I insert a 'Dummy' model into a part rather than just leaving the model empty?

I seem to get warnings when I save some parts with Empty models.

I was able to add an empty model named Dummy to the database and I can use that, but some parts seemed to get a 'Dummy' model without going through that.

Thanks,

David B

dbur,

I would suggest going into the Database Manager, editing the part and in the tab section labeled 'Model' - open this up.   For a dummy or empty model (basically these are treated the same as far as I understand it), you'll need to remove anything in the section below in the "Symbol to model pin mapping" section.   The best way is to click on the 'Show Template' button and delete the entire contents of the template text - and then hit 'Ok'.

I don't believe its the dummy vs. empty causing the problem - it was the fact that the mapping was trying to do something that didn't quite match up to the pins.    If there is no model, the mapping should be cleared out.

As long as there is also a footprint, clearing out this mapping should also allow for the part to show up as a 'green' part inside the schematic (designating it as footprint only).

Yes, the 'show template' and deleting that stuff was what I was missing.

Thanks.
