Filenames used for Gerber Export

Garret,

Yes I've brought it to their attention, and I believe they resolved it with their latest release. So part of the blame goes to them, but those crazy long file names just make a mess.

What I mean by global is that it seems that a lot of the new changes you make to things like toolbars, and other definitions seem to be attached to the PROJECT ITSELF and not the core of the program.

I reformatted my laptop as of late and there was a very specific toolbar setting that I created that the default setting does not. Yet magically when I opened that file, the default toolbars should have been in place BUT, it wasn't, the software recalled my custom setting which is not GLOBAL, but file dependant. When I open a new default file, that setting is gone and default bars only. So clearly things are being attached that are project specific and not GLOBAL to the program itself. That can be both good and bad at the same time. The option I speak of for output, should be global and not file dependant.

Does that make more sense?

Chris

Actually I don't have a preference for using the file extension to indicate which layer is which - this is rather a hang over from 8.3 filename days.

I think I do prefer the approach that uses the layer names spelt out.   Though some consistency between Gerber export and NC drill export would be good 🙂 - (one inserts a " - " between the "Project Name(Design Name)" part and the layer name, while the other just appends without the " - ").

As for whether the layer name should come first or last - I'm completely agnostic!

Cheers
Dave

For Chris:

I thought that is what you meant, so thanks for clarifying.

For Dave:

I've ammended the first one and added another request to make the file naming scheme consistent.

Glad to help, I hate to make it seem like I'm bitching all the time, but this gets frustrating using this day in and day out and having to wait a year everytime in hopes changes make it to new revisions. It's disheartning to put all the work into the beta and only not see half of the changes don't make it in.....

I'm sure the next release will be more robust, hopefully that will happen sooner than later.

Best Regards,
Chris

As for layer definition, if whole words are used, I'm really fine with either TopCopper or CopperTop. If they are abbreviated, I'd just slam my head on the desk and give up. 🙂
