Footprint not found in database

For some reason Multisim does not find my footprint in the database. I have followed the instructions from

Multiuse I have followed the instructions from the Users Guide of Multisim and Ultiboard still no luck (pretty much a whole day wasted on this simple task). It took a while but I got my custom footprint in Ultiboard (WAY more difficult then Orcad or Eagle). The footprint is an Wurth Electronics inductor PN: 744043101. I put it in the Users database under the sub category of Custom DB as in the instructions I named the part WE100uF to make the naming easy but no luck. In multisim I copied the 100uF inductor symbol to the Users Database --> sub:Basic components --> sub: inductors
I can get tot the part and edit the footprint etc. etc. Through the instructions but the databases never seem to find each other. I have the full version 10 of the multisim and ultiboard. I have been to and signed up for

http://ni.kittmaster.com/  but I still don't understand why NI actually sells this program with such a limited database of parts/footprints (this program was not my choice) .

I thank anyone who may be able to help me through this.

Easier for me to just post a picture. You should get a dialog box asking if you are sure you want to create a new footprint. Click yes (of course).

Thanks for the reply. Tried that and it did not fix the problem. I have attached a MS word document that shows the custom footprint in Ultiboard, shows the name I saved it as and database it is saved in.  It them shows what I see in Multisim from the Select a footprint window to the add a footprint window and back to the select a footprint window where it tells me that "Footprint not found in Ultiboard Database". Clearly shows the name in the Ultiboard database and name entered in the Multisim are the same but no thumbnail of the part shows up, just "Footprint not found in Ultiboard Database".

Thanks for the help

Let me make a few assumptions:

  1. You have restarted your PC since installing Multisim and/or Ultiboard
  2. Your Multisim and Ultiboard are the same version.
  3. You only have one version of the afore-mentioned installed, or you are making sure that you are adding the footprint to the 10.1 installation of Ultiboard and trying to add it to the 10.1 installation of Multisim.
  4. You have restarted both programs after creating and saving the footprint in Ultiboard.

If all those assumptions are true, then I am unable to reproduce your problem. Maybe your installation is corrupt? Either you are doing something wrong, or your computer is.

Thanks I was about to throw this thing out the window.

1. Yes we have restarted since install

2. Yes Multisim and Ultiboard are the same version 10.0.343

3. Yes they are the only versions installed

4. No, I had not restarted the programs.

I saved my work, closed the programs and restarted the computer and the footprint shows up.

I really appreciate the help, seems pretty trivial I would have fought with this for days, never even thought to restart the programs.

Again thanks.

Yeah, gimme my props! 🙂 Glad I could help. I laughed out loud when you mentioned throwing it out the window, because I've been there more times than I would like to admit. 🙂

[sarcasm]Enjoy your wonderful piece of software and the legendary support that goes with it![/sarcasm]

Edit: To be fair, I'm not criticizing the staff members that we see helping people out. I'm thinking in more of a NI corporate priorities sense.

Thanks Ryan for posting the pictures of this. I have not done much in the custom footprint area, but I have been through the turorials about adding it to Multisim, but the pictures you posted makes it look a lot simpler. Also, that was good information about re-starting the 'puter and programs.

You Da Man. Thanks very much.

More important than being good info, it was helpful info. 😉 Anyway, I'm in a good mood today and flattery will get you everywhere. 🙂

On a personal note, the reason I'm in such a good mood is because I find out if I'm going to have a son or daughter in less than 21 hours! 🙂 Sorry, I'm excited!
