We are using a plastic SMD lightguide part on our board and are wondering how to add this part to the board in the best way.
We made a lightguide footprint and schematic symbol, but it won't attach the mechanical part to the schematic symbols unless there is at least one pin. All we can do is a dummy pin and then the lightguide appears on the board. Otherwise it shows up as if the footprint is missing.
Of course we can add manually that mechanical part to the PCB, but don't know if the pick-and-place machine can find it then.
And help with this?

When you made a schematic symbol, add at least 1 pin and specify:
1. Shape - Zero-Length Pin
2. Tip pin - NC (Not connect)

We tried this (apart from the shape - zero lenght Pin) but did not work for us. This zero length Pin is only for the graphics in Multisim, or does it help to solve the error messages? Still the program does not accept it, keeps giving errors.

It should be made at Component Wizard. At editing it is impossible. Create a new symbol.

This actually can be done while editing the component, you need to modify the footprint to have 1 pin in Multisim (even though there are none in Ultiboard)
To do this
1) Click the Add from database at the footprint tab.
2) Locate the footprint and change the PinCount from 0 to 1.
3) Click Save
The standard pinout should change to 1;
If you then click select, you will be able to assign the symbol pin to the false footprint pin.
