Installation of Microchip MPASM

I am able to run the Metalink Assembler for the 8051/8051, but not the Microchip MPASM compiler. How does one add a compiler to Multisim so that it is recognized? None of the circuits using the PIC16F84A will allow code changes and recompiling.

Is there a central location where you can see which compilers are supported within Multisim?

Since the edit ability is time limited I'll do it this way --> Evidently my post is related to the post " MCU Module Version 10.1" which was posted 08-06-2008 and has no resolution yet.

Also another post "MCU programme" would indicate that it is possible to have the MPASM working. How do we get it?

More on this.

In the sample "Getting Started MPU" there is a message in the schematic alerting us that the MPASM is not available in Multisim 10.1. And to "Please contact National Instruments at ewbsupport@ni.com for more information." I have and I'll keep you posted.

Most of the work I'm interested in uses PIC16F... I notice the Hi-Tech PICC Lite compiler is available and some of the examples use it instead of MPASM. How hard is it to convert code from MPASM to Hi-Tech PICC?

I can answer this last question. It would be a pain in the kester because they are 2 different languages. One is assembly and the other is C. So unless you are fluent in both languages it would be rough going. Probably could be done, but very painfully. This is my opinion since I am most comfortable with Assembly and just don't quite get C.

As far as the compiler goes, anyone that had the MCU Module as an add-on to Version 10.0.1 and has since lost functionality since upgrading to 10.1 definitely needs to contact NI Support direct on this

I think that NI needs to post a sticky message about this and also maybe get into some details about what happened here. This may help users understand their issues when it comes to this situation.

I hope you are able to get this going.

To give some orientation on that issue.

The statement included in the readme file is correct. If you are trying to use the MPASM compiler "in the Professional" edition of Multisim, contact NI in the email address provided. Just send your serial number, name and address as ID and they will give you further instructions on how to enable this functionality, there is no fee or anything similar involved, NI will provide instructions on how to enable it.

With the release of 10.1 along with ongoing agreement changes with Microchip, the professional editions do not enable the MPASM functionality by default. NI is required to know exactly who is using the MPASM compiler. NI is working with Microchip so we can enable this functionality in the near future for all professional users again.

Best regards,
