I have a couple questions regarding custom footprints and their use between ultiboard and multicap. First off in ultiboard I modified a couple existing footprints - a ssop20 and a sot23-3. Basically widened the pads a bit and spread.
I want to be able to transfer back and forth from schematic to PCB, so in multicap when making a new component I am able to choose my custom sot23-3 footprint under 'user database', but that footprint has a transistor associated with it and I change it to reflect the ID of a voltage regulator with the same footprint. I can't transfer back to the PCB with it like that -- Do I need to have a footprint for every component in Ultiboard or is there a way for a generic custom footprint to be available to whatever component value I place on it?
Second - modified the ultiboard ssop-20 footprint, saved it as a user custom. It isn't available to me in multicap - why not?
Basically is there a good reference for working these databases together - I've read the doc 'Create new Component in UB' and followed it but alot of the directions don't seem to work. In the beginning it talks of making a new component without wizard - the shortcut keys for coordinates don't work on my setup. Secondly can't you make a new component with an existing custom footprint or do you always have to layout the pads? And again in the section for making the custom part available to multicap - I got one to work, but is non-transferrable and the other doesn't show up.
