Problems with vias

How can I put a via from Top or Bottom to a inner Powerplane. After routing a short trace from a SMT Pin I put a via to GND or VCC Plane. The via appears on the design und disappears after clicking ESC. The via will not stay.  The board is a 8 layer PCB with 4 powerplanes. What´s my problem ? The inner Layers are defiend as Powerplanes (Place-Powerplanes-etc.) GND and VCC routing is enebeld for all layers(11111111).Need help. It the first time  I ´m working with UB7.

Right there is the problem, version 7 had a lot of issues with power plane inner layer vias if I recall.

Hi g-p,

could you please post the board (pcb) so that we can reproduce the behavior.

Thanks

Hi Benjamin,

sorry, can not post the board. I do this design by order of a customer. I downloaded version 10 of Ultiboard ( Trial Version), it works  better, but not good enought. With the follow-me-router the vias are connected to the planes.OK.  But it puts also vias into SMT Pads. Without errormessage. Terrible.  I think, Ultiboard is more a toy than a tool. I worked with DOS Ultiboard since 1992 and haven´t got such much problems. I don´t know for whom NI developed Ultiboard, but not for professional user. Software with so much errors is not for sale. Have you heard of the layout software EAGLE? Same sh.., but much cheaper.

Hi,

There are designers who place via under SMD pad on purpose and DRC do not check it.  I agree that in most cases via under SMD pad should be avoided and the user should have an option to tell DRC to flag for it.  I will create a feature request for this issue.
