Rotate Horizontal Bug

When I rotate a potentiometer horizontally, the "percent of rotation" indicator is "flopped" -- need a bug-fix here.

Also, the placement of the slider interferes with wiring -- at least in the standard magnification.Potentiometer.GIF

Hi jackinnj,

In version 12, we have added the capability to rotate text. This functionality was not there before but now you can change the direction of the text. If you click on the 50% tag by itself and press Ctrl-r, you will see that it will start to rotate. Generally, when you are only rotating the part, the text will not rotate. It will keep its direction but just change the position relative to the part. If you rotate the text only, then you will see the direction change.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Sounds like a now documented "programming oversight" to me.  Nice to have the ability to rotate text, but this is much akin to the old Monty Python skit: "The Parrot Isn't Dead, It's Just Resting".  Fess up, be honest with your customers and don't try to BS them.  it's a mistake and should be corrected in the next release.

The odd things here are that while rotation is supported, the text shouldn't be mirroring, and the default position and orientation for the text after rotating and/or flipping a component should be standard left-to-right, horizontal.

I just tried rotating and flipping a potentiometer here and I could not get the text to mirror in the way that you have. Is there anything special about that potentiometer? Was anything done to it other than just flip/rotate? Or if you can't think of anything that might be odd about that one particular part, would you be able to attach a file with that potentiometer in it so we can take a look at it?

Sorry to take so much time getting back -- this is from ms12 -- if you rotate it using the drop-down tool, then rotate using CTRL-R you get some strange results.

Leftover complaint from ms11 -- the position of the scrolling potentiometer adjuster interferes with wiring the device.

Hi,

I see now why I wasn't able to reproduce this when I tested it before. I was trying it with a different type of potentiometer. Multisim has rated and unrated potentiometers - the difference being that the rated one can blow during simulation. It seems the symbols for these two types of potentiometers may have been made slightly differently, so they behave a little differently.

The strange rotation is something we will need to look in to on this end - there isn't anything you'll be able to do to prevent it. But (at least if you don't need a potentiometer that can blow out) you could use the non-rated potentiometer for now - the text on that one stays in proper orientation, and is movable - which means that you can also move the resistance slider out of your way if you need to, which may help with the wiring difficulties a little bit.
