Strange MultiMate Response

Hi to all users of Multisim!

I am just evaluating Multisim 10.1.  Although many complicated simulations work (using the Oscilloscope), I'm running in a strange problem with the response time of the reading of the standard multimeters.

When I'm going to measure voltages with the standard multimeters, the reading of the result seams to be a matter of random, depending on the duration of the analysis  (we are talking about transient analysis).  I hooked up a primitive circuit (1 voltage source, 2 resistors as a voltage divider). If I choose the "End time TSTOP" f.x. to 1msec, then the multimeters did'nt show any result. Increasing the "End time TSTOP" parameter, sometimes (not always)  correct readings are shown for "End times TSTOP" in the range of 2sec after the simulation is finished. Resetting the Transient Analysis Parameters to standard values and watching the meters after starting the simulation, first values were shown after about 50msec simulation time, but also this value changes and is sometimes greater than 200msec simulation time.

When I connect an ocilloscope in parallel to the multimeter, the oscilloscope always shows the correct value, independly of the choosen TSTOP parameter.

I'm using Windows XP service pack 2.

Did I make any mistake or what can be the reason for that strange behavior?

Thanks in advance.

Juergen

I do not believe you are doing anything wrong as I am getting the same results. My theory is that there is just an inherent delay in the Multimeters to allow the circuit to achieve some stability before the voltage measurement appears. This is only a theory. NI would have to look at this and determine if there is a software related problem with the Multimeter.

If you need to measure in such small durations, I would recommend using the Measure Probes instead of the Multimeters. I have tested these with your simulation parameters and they give instantaneous results.

I hope this helps some.
