Thermal Vias and SMT Pads

I'm trying to create thermal vias that are connected to the top copper layer and the bottom copper layer.  I had figured it out once using ultiboard 10 but I can't figure out how to do it again. 

The more challenging problem is creating a SMT pad that is also connected to this top later of copper.  Please help!

HI Glasey,

Place a via by selecting Place>>Via

Double click on  the placed via and then select the Via tab

Place a check on the Assume Net and pick the net you need this via to connect to.
