Ultiboard 12 - one question and one error

Hello,

I came back with the same question and one more. First, I installed the demo version NI Design Suite 12 and I want to know, please:

1. I want know if in Ultiboard 12 I can tuning the length of a net as in Altium Designer software:

http://www.altium.com/files/pdfs/Tuning-Net-Lengths-Interactively_EN.pdf

2. I can use "Polygon Splitter" function to cut and polish "Power Plane" ? For example, look in the next image attached below, where I displayed only Copper Top layer.

So...

Hi Pub,

1.  Please refer to this knowledge base to setup Ultiboard to route a trace at a specified length:

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/600F3D2463F61D8386257471005CADFD

2.  Here are a few tools ou can use to clean the copper area:

a.  From your screen shot, it shows the octagon clearances around the pads, use the upgrade tool to change the clearance to round:

-  Select Options>>PCB Properties>>Upgrade>>Upgrade design

A round clearance will prouduce fewer sharped edges

b.  Select Edit>>Copper Delete>>Copper Island

-  Now click any copper islands you want to remove from your board

c.  Use the keep-out area to remove unwanted copper areas.

- Place>>Keepout/Keepin area

- Draw a polygon around the area you want to remove

-  If you have other objects within the keep out area, you will get a DRC warning.  You can ignore the DRC warning or you can create a net group under Tools>>Group Editor>>Net Group.  Assign the copper area net to that group.  Exit the group Editor, double click on the keep-out area and now, you can specific to only keep out the specific net group.

Thanks Tien_P,

Concerning the second response, I tried to apply the option "Keep out/Keep in area" but every time I applied it and I wanted to cut or crop Power Plane, the option to take due account the default distance between PCB tracks or between the power plane and tracks / pads, and I don't want that (is quite annoying).

So, when I cut the Power Plane with the option "Keep Out / Keep In Area" I wish they did not take into account the distance between the tracks. And how I can remove "Keep On / Keep Out Area" (suppose that after several uses I would like to remove some keep out/keep In area)?

Hi Pub,

If you really have to remove a copper area section, you can use the keepout but it is difficult to work with so you have to play around with it.

To remove or edit the keepout area, select the Keepin-out layer in the Design Toolbox, now should be able to select the keepout area and make changes to it.

Please look at these six images from RAR archive attached below.

Something is wrong with the power plane. I am not sure, but it's my first time that happens. Can someone help me succeed with some tips.

Kind/best regards,

"pub"

Hi,

Turn on your clearance under View>>Clearances, this will turn on the clearances it helps you see what Ultiboard sees and why the copper area areas the way they do.

It's hard to say why you have the short without looking at the actual file, try running a DRC check sometimes it's just a refresh issue.

Okay, I followed your instructions and noticed cause. Please look at the two images below.

So, as you can see, if I try change the clearances, the power plane connected to ground intersects route 70 VDC. Why ?

Hi Pud,

Can you create a service request and  send me the file?  If you are not able to create service request, message me with your email address.

Thank you for your response but if I don't buy yet the product MultiSim + Ultiboard (I said I was doing some tests on the demo version), this means that I don't have service account and I can't open one service request. Right?

Finally, I will send a message to say that e-mail.

Thanks again for your time.
