Why does MS change the refdes of a part when the replace component command is used?
Here is an example. Say I have a schematic that has R1-R20 on it. All parts are from the User DB and have part number, vendor info, etc. Later I decided to remove R1. Then I decide to use the replace component on R8 with a different resistor from the user DB. MS now decides to change the RefDes to R1.
It doesn't do it all the time and I haven't been able to isolate when it seems to happen.
This is a major pain when the design has already been exported to UB and routed.
Is this a known bug? Is it considered a bug or a feature? Is there a way to disable this renaming?
Thanks,

GregW ,
Which version are you on? This shouldn't be happening for single section components- if it is it is a bug. For multisection components you should be prompted since an existing portion of the part may already be in use.
In the v10.1 a replace of a single section component does not seem to change the refdes. If it is happening can you send the file directly to me (or at least a representative file tjat shows the issue) so to allow us to reproduce this issue. You can also file a customer support request.
