Hello,
I've been using EWB 9 (free version) for a while and really enjoyed it for doing signal conditioning boards, etc... Lately my designs have outgrown the freeware version so I decided to bite the bullet and purchase Circuit Design Suite Base. However I'm frustrated to find that basic components are listed as IPC xxxx/xxxx without any kind of cross reference. Also footprints have been lost or redefined in a working project from EWB9 : for example a 1/2 W resistor in EWB9 (RES0.5) is now a SMT RESC2012x70N. All through my design I have to go through and replace basic components!!!!
I'm really dissapointed to find that something I thought was going to save time is ending up costing so much time and aggravation. I've been a National Instruments customer for over 15 years and this is not the quality I've come to expect from NI software.

I had this same situation when I tried to import a Multisim 2001 Schematic.
I am currently searching for some type of document that outlines the IPC footprint names and correlates them to thier equivalent power rating. So far I have hit a brick wall, but I will continue forth, as they say, until I find something definitive on this. This may take a long time to find, so if anyone else may have already found something aiong these lines please let us know.

I went through NI's phone support and although the support engineer didn't have a ready answer, he did research it and get back to me. Here is his reply:
I asked the person who made the resistor footprint why watt is not an option when selecting resistor from the Multisim database and it's because he found that the same footprint can be different wattage. I looked at a couple of web pages and I see what's he is saying. Below link which demonstrates this issue, you will find that the KNP-50 and KNP 100 have the same dimension with different but different watt rating.

Here is an example of an IPC name and what it represents: RES650 -320X170
650 Center to center of the two leads
320 Body length
170 Body width
Attached is a data sheet with some size information.
Hopefully this will save someone else some misery.
