I have taken a while to respond so I could experiment with different things to try to come up with an answer. I have at least 3 different things that you can try to see if it would work the way you need.
Before I get into my ideas there is one thing I would like to comment on. In the ELECTRO_MECHANICAL category there is a current transformer. I tried this component in various configurations and could not get it working properly. I suspect there is a model problem with it or I am not using it correctly somehow. If NI would like to address this particular situation I would like to hear what they have to say on this.
These particular current transformers are used extensiviely in my line of work which is Industrial Electronics/Electrical. A wire/cable is fed through a torrid with other wires wrapped around it in essence to form a secondary. The current through the wire creates a magnetic field that cuts the turns of the "secondary" thereby producing a voltage and current in this "secondary". These are used in my application for phase detection on a three phase system. If one phase is missing then the current will either increase or decrease (I can't recall which way it actually goes off the top of my head) and causes a trip unit to fire and this in turn disconnects the main breaker.
There ar 3 ways tio simulate this effect. 1. Use a standard transformer from the Master Database and put it in series with your current and measure from the secondary, 2. Use the Current Controlled Current Source from the Sources Menu or 3. Use the Current Controlled Voltage Source from the same menu.
The last 2 is dependent on whether you want to have a current ouput or a voltage output from the "secondary".
There may be other options, but I would consider these to be the easiest to implement as you wouldn't have to worry too much about finding a model and go through the whole process of creating a new component.
I hope this helps.
