unable to succesfully install multisim 2011 with windows 7

INstalling multisim 2001 on my laptop with windows 7 and office 2010 cuases java links embedded in IE8 to become inactive. My company tech support cannot reactive links the only solution is to roll back laptop to before 2001 installation. Any suggestions to succesfully install. (multisim works fine after installation and no other programs appear affected)

I assume that upgrading to a newer version of Multisim is not an option for you?

With that assumption in mind could you maybe run Multisim 2001 in a Virtual Machine? This could allow you to have Multisim 2001 installed on a previous version of Windows (one were it doesn't get any errors, not sure what version fits that criterion) but would mean that you didn't get it interfearing with your main system and causing unexpected errors with Java or IE8.
