Custom Step Problem

Solved!
Go to solution

I have a number of custom steps (inherited, no source code) which we have been using with TestStand versions 3.0 and 3.5.  I am trying to import them into TestStand 4.1 but I am having problems.  I know that the location of the files has changed under TestStand 4.x.  They used to live in the TestStand folder, now they live in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\National Instruments\TestStand 4.1\Components.  I have copied all the DLLs, INI, ICO, files into the correct folders, but some of the steps do not appear in the context menu when adding a step.  I have added four custom steps, two of which I visible, two are not.

Has the way that Custom Steps are managed changed in TS 4.1?

Thanks.

Did you add your type palettes under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\National Instruments\TestStand 4.1\Components\TypePalettes ?

Are your type palettes and step types showing up in the Type Palette Document?

You might also need to right-click on the step insert palette and choose Customize... to update where your steps types appear in the insertion palette.

Hope this helps,

Hmmm, the Custom Steps that do not work seem to be missing TypePalette ini files!  Is it possible to recreate them?  We were given the CS by another part of the company that no longer exists...

If you have a sequencefile that uses the custom step types, then you can regenerate the type palette from the type definition defined in the sequence file.
