Unless you modified the default operator interface (OI), when you uncheck the "Execution in Separate Windows" the OI should not create additional windows or tabs. Instead it creates additional forms inside the same window.
You can switch between different executions by clicking on Windows and selecting the desired execution.
If you would like to use tabs instead of clicking on Windows and selecting the desired execution, you will have to modify the OI code. Since the whole code is structured using these panels I would say modifying it will involve some work.
