Hi

What is the value of the following registry key on the computer that has the above behavior?
Key - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Version Vector
Subkey - IE

Bill

To clarify you have the Key - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Version Vector but no IE value?
This key should be set by IE when it was installed.

A fix to your problem you could add a string value called IE with the value of 6.0.

I have some questions to understand how the machine got into this state -
1. How was IE installed on this machine? Windows update, IE CD?,
2. Was this machine upgraded from previous version of windows? I found a post on MSDN stated that there is an IE bug - if the machine was upgraded from Win98 this key will not be set.
3. A screen shot of IE's about box
4. Was there anything different about how your machine was setup? Was it a clean XP SP2 install? factory installed? etc

Anand,
thanks for the help.

Regarding your questions, I found the key to be missing on 3 computers.  One was a Dell Laptop with factory installed XP pro and the other 2 were Stealth computers (rack mount) also with XP pro from the factory.

The computeres are on our network and get updates regularly, so I do not know if the updates had anything to do with the problem.

Screenshot of IE is attached (.bmp)
