LabVIEW and TestStand Compatibility chart

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi,

There are various LabVIEW compatibility charts on the NI Website such as this but there doesn't appear to be a LabVIEW and TestStand Compatibility chart.

I think I have found my answers but I had to got through all the TestStand Release Notes to get it.

Hi Ray,

You have done the right thing by looking at the TestStand Release Notes as a compatability chart doesn't appear to exist.

It is a very good idea so I will be putting this idea forward. I may even try creating a chart myself.

Thanks for posting!

Kind Regards

Ok thanks,

If you do create one and are able too, can you post it on this thread. I think other would find it useful as well.

Hi Ray,

The TestStand Lifecycle Policy page lists out compatibility of different versions of TestStand with:

  • Operating Systems
  • LabVIEW
  • LabWindows/CVI

(In addition to information about lifecycle and support policy)

Specifically, here's a screenshot of the LabVIEW support:

With each new release of TestStand, we will be updating the lifecycle policy page, so you can always go there for up-to-date information.

Hello Jervin,

My customer is using TS4.0 + LV 2009 (They have upgraded LV 09 from LV 8.2, but still staying at TS 4.1). They are saying that there were no problem in this unsupported combination and I have also witnessed it. Please let me know what kind of common issue we will get when using this kind of unsupported combinations, a link may be fine.

Hi Ashwin

Honestly based on what I've seen, in a lot of cases TestStand will often work with *newer* versions of LabVIEW that weren't officially supported. (They weren't officially supported becuase that version of LabVIEW wasn't even out when the particular version of TestStand released).

As far as common issues, I'm not sure... If TestStand recognizes the LabVIEW version in the adapter settings, and LabVIEW steps properly show the VI connector pane in the step settings pane, then most of the functionlity will probably work fine.

There's another great resource for compatibility information that you can find on NI's website.  All of the documents that release with the software are online in .pdf form. In general, there is a document in the latest released software (LabVIEW or TestStand) that has compatibility information with previous versions of other NI software (it's named Upgrade Notes for LabVIEW, and Release Notes for TestStand).

In the LabVIEW 2009 Upgrade notes (http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/371780e.pdf) on page 5 it specifies that "You must use NI TestStand 3.5 or later with LabVIEW 2009".

In my experience, a phrase like this means that at least minimal testing has been done between those versions and verified that basic functionality works. You may still run into issues; but chances are almost everything will work.

Note that in the LabVIEW 2010 upgrade notes (http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/371780f.pdf) on page 6, the text has changed to "There are known compatibility issues with LabVIEW 2010 and TestStand 4.2.1 and earlier verisons. Refer to the National Instruments Web site at ni.com/info and enter the info code exvaku to access the KnowledgeBase article that details these issues."
