Minimize user interface problem

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi:

When using the top right minimize button on the Teststand CVI Full-Featured user interface, clicking on the item in the taskbar does not work to restore the display of the interface. Instead, one needs to right click on the taskbar and choose 'unminimize'. This is very confusing, particularily for our test operators.

Can this be fixed so that the minimize button operates the same as right clicking on the taskbar item and choosing minimize?

We are using CVI 9.0.1 and Teststand 4.0.1f1.

Thanks,
Dave

Dseel,

Has it always behaved this way? Does this occur with the default CVI fully featured interface or one that you have modified? Also what operating system are you using? When i try this with CVI 9.0.1 and TestStand 4.0, it works as expected. Even if i try to right click and select unminimize this is not a possible option, i can only choose restore. I have Windows XP service pack 3. Can you minimize and restore other programs by clicking on the task bar item?

Hi:

It has not always behaved this way. It started happening within the last 6 months. Possibly coinciding with us upgrading to CVI 9, but this may be coincidence. It may have been a Windows update.

I confirmed this happens with the default CVI fully featured interface.

We are using Windows XP Professional 2002 SP 2.

I can minimize and restore other programs normally.

I tried it again today and it looks like you have to have a sequence running for the problem to occur. I was able to minimize and restore normally before starting (Test UUTs) a sequence. Please try again while running a sequence.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

I tried again while running a sequence, but i'm still not seeing this same behavior. Possibly try upgrading to XP service pack 3. Also did you install the Q4 2008 version of CVI? If so you needed to uninstall it before installing any other versions of CVI, http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/A628647518111F7B86257555004B3A03 it came out about 6 months ago. Also if anyone else sees this behavior let me know, and give me some information about your system, so i can try to reproduce here.

Verified problem exists on a different station running Windows XP SP3. This was also a fresh install of CVI 9.0.1 and teststand 4.0.1f1 - neither had been on the system before.

Let me know what other information I can provide to help resolve this problem.

Please attach a sequence file that reproduces the problem. Also do you have tracing on or off? Are you running the UI as an editor or operator interface?

I've attached the most basic sequence I could create. One popup step. The problem still occurs even if you highlight the popup step and choose Run Selected Steps using Single Pass.

I was able to run that sequence file with no problems and minimize the user interface in editor and operator mode. Granted when there is a popup window if you minimize the main window you must click on the popup and click okay or cancel before you will be able to access the main window again. Is this the problem you're seeing or do you also see the behavior when running this example that has a five second wait step?

Interestingly the problem does not occur with the wait step example you provided.

I don't follow what you are saying about clicking the popup before being able to see the main window again. I think this is the problem I'm describing.

Here is exactly the sequence of events I see:

* use minimize.seq

* highlight popup and Run Selected Steps using Single Pass

* leave popup up

* minimize operator interface window with top right - button

* left click on operator interface in task bar --> this should restore the window, but it does not

* right click on operator interface in task bar; choose unminimize --> this restores the window

D,

This was reported to R&D (# 175612 ) for further investigation. They will investigate this unexpected behavior with the CVI fully featured OI.
