Support for Git

Does NI have any plans to support Git for SCC?

I know that they currently support SCC providers that use the Microsoft SCC API. Most of the providers that support that API are very old and not that good.

We work around NI by using a .gitattributes file to declare LV VIs and support as binary but for TS with all of the files initially being saved a binary (great for deployment) instead of XML (great for development), checking in a single binary file causes issue when you try to merge.

It would be a great feature to add to support repositories built on Git.

Thanks

Randy

While NI is thinking about Git support, I cannot comment on the timeline.

I am assuming that you have updated .gitattributes to configure it to use lvcompare tool for *.vi file type. To make it easy to work with sequence files in Git, similar to using lvcompare, you can update .gitattributes to use TestStand File Diff/Merge utility for *.seq files.

While integrating Git with the Sequence Editor is under consideration, there is a KB document that specifies how you can configure TestStand File Diff and Merge Utility to compare and merge changes in your sequence files when they are saved in the binary format when using any of the following Git clients

  • Microsoft Visual Studio
  • Atlassian Sourcetree
  • Git Cola
  • GitKraken
  • Tortoise Git
