Kulwant,

I am very sorry that you are having trouble with TestStand 4.1.

What kind of crashes are you experiencing?  Are they just with the TestStand sequence editor or are they with a different User Interface?  Do the crashes happen randomly or only when doing specific operations?

What kind of GUI related issues are you referring to?  And could you elaborate on your doesn't "have the same feel" comment?  What specifically would you like fixed?

Some background information that will help as well:

  1. What operating system are you using?
  2. What type of code modules are you running, and what version of the software are they written with? (LabVIEW, CVI, .NET, C++, etc)

Thanks for your concern.

i am using both vista and Xp but i am facing issues with Xp .and I am using C# methods with TS.

i didn't want to Switch to TS 4.1 as a human tendency to be reluctant to new thing (specially u on ur way to a project) but then we puchased new copies of TS .NI has given upgraded version  then .i had to switch to 4.1

Functionalty wise not an issue. but  Performance degraded seriously may be because u are making it more heavier .

then at times Gui behaving unexepectedly many times but not able to reproduce .then in ts4.0 when u have pened many files then they are converging to acomodate many files nbut in ts 4.1 if u open more than 3 file then u have to press the buttonabove  to make other visible and alot other minute changes...

regards

Kulwant,

When you complain of 'seriously degraded' performance, what aspect of performance are you talking about?  Is it how long it takes for your application to launch?  How long it takes to execute a sequence?  How long it takes to display a dialog box?

Is the performance degredation confined to a specific sub-set of functionality?  By that I mean, do only .NET steps slow down?  Are other steps affected?  Does the problem occur only in the Sequence Editor, or in every UI?  The more detail you can give us, the better the chance of us being able to fix the problem.

When you complain of the 'GUI behaving unexpectedly' what behavior happens?  Is it a hang or a crash?  Do windows move unexpectedly?  What is the problem you are having?

As far as the TestStand Sequence Editor behaving differently in 4.0 versus 4.1, I was not able to reproduce the behavior that you are describing.  I tried creating many blank sequence files in both 4.0 and 4.1, and I got the same behavior in both.  Do you have screenshots of the problem?

Also, in case you are not aware, the Sequence Editor display can be customized.  You can choose to Tile or Cascade windows in the Window menu, and in Configure»Sequence Editor Options... there are many settings that you can use to change how information is displayed.

Hi Josh,

I've seen the SeqEdit crash several times when it is in the middle of an execution and I (accidentally) move the panes around. Unfortunately I don't have the screenshots but I'll post them here next time it happens

For lauching the LabVIEW 8.6 steps in TestStand 4.1 its taking almost 7 to 10 seconds to load or refresh the LabVIEW terminals. Everytime while clicking on the LabVIEW steps its taking the same time..... Its a kind of irritating to code. I dont know what happening inside.. but in TS 4.0 its pretty fast. Even I tried with using runtime engine option.... very little bit of changes I found... in this case I cant able to edit the LabVIEw code.

Is there any method to make it fater to repond. Or its a bug in LV 8.6 the way it loads.?

I have also seen a significant slow down in TS4.1 with LV 8.6.

In 4.1 if you move panes around while the execution is running then you can almost gaurantee a crash (at least on my humble machine). Also loading modules for 8.6 is very time consuming. ~10-30 secs this is much slower then 4.0. I stopped using 4.1 after about two weeks of testing, it was just not worth the effort to upgrade, especially since most of the folder structure changed.

Just my 2 cents

There is a known issue with LabVIEW 8.6 and any version of TestStand that will cause a significant delay updating the display after selecting a LabVIEW step in the sequence editor.  The issue is described in KnowledgeBase 4PH891T3: Known Compatibility Issues with TestStand and LabVIEW 8.6, and a patch is available.

Please try to install the patch for LabVIEW 8.6f1 and see if it fixes the behavior you are experiencing.  If it does not, please let me know and we will agressively investigate the issue.  It would be helpful if you could provide examples or instructions to reproduce the problem.

Thanks!

HI,

I also had the same problem.....TS4.1 + LV8.6 working VERY slow.

I installed the patch and things seems to work much better.

Now, few days later...it is slow again.

My question is how do I check if the patch is still on?

shall I install the patch again?

Thanks

Rafi
