TestStand execution stops sometimes

Hi,
I am using TestStand version 3.5 . Sometimes The execution stops but the GUI still responds. In most cases it occurred after calling a testand pop up message which includes a jpg file. After the operator pressed OK the pop up disappears & Testand is not moving to the next step.
This phenomenon occurs in Testand editor & in Operator interface.
Thank you
Ofer

Hi,

Sounds like you are closing the windows but not actually returning to TestStand to allow it to continue.

What are you using to create this Popup, because its not a TestStand default step type MessagePopup.

Hi:

I'm using a standard Testand 'Message Pop up' step.

I attached a jpg to describe it.

Thanks,

Ofer

Hi,

I am not seeing any effect like that. How often does it occur.  Have you tried it without the picture.

Hi

It doesn't occur a lot. I  think it occurs in about 5% from all sequence running.Idid not try to remove the picture. I can try removing it will be difficult to come to any conclusion because it dose not occur a lot.

1.Do u suggest not to use the show picture option in the message pop up step?

2.If the problem will occur again what helpful information can I give u, & how can I force Testand to continue running the sequence?

Thanks,

Ofer

Ofer,

Are you running multiple threads at once?  Is there ever more than one message popup active (displayed) at any time?  Are you using the Parallel or Batch process models?

I found a CAR (Corrective Action Request ID: 447DGAIF) that describes a similar problem to what you are experiencing and was fixed between TestStand 3.5 and 4.0.  The bug that was fixed is that sometimes there is a race condition when multiple message popups are active that can cause a hang.  If you are in this situation, then it could be possible that you are running into this behavior.

Hi: No for all questions: 1.I'm using only one thread & one pop up message. 2.I'm using the sequential process model. Thanks, Ofer

Hi:

The problem occurred again, means that after a pop up message with a graphical announcement in it Testand did not continue running.
I started to close application in the PC and after closing a Word document Testand continued running.

Maybe it was just an incidence. Anyway in the previous occasions there was no Office document open, and even I closed other applications it did not help.

Hi Ofer,

There are a few questions that I have that should hopefully give us a little more insight into your issue.

1. You mentioned that all of these Message Popups have images. Are you getting the same 5% hang rate if you have pop-ups without the images?

2. In the CAR that Josh W mentioned above, the behavior was more likely to happen immediately after rebooting the computer. Could you see if this increases the hanging behavior?

3. Which code module are you using primarily in TestStand?

4. Is this occurring only in one Message Popup or are you seeing this behavior in others as well?

Regards,

Lars

1.No, most or all occasions occurred when the pop up message includes jpeg image.

2.I can not see a connection between PC rebooting and the problem.

3.Most of the code modules are labview Vi's.And I have few DLL's written in CVI 8.0.

4.This behavior  occurs in several Message Popup's & not in a specific one.

Thanks,

Ofer
