What are the meanings of "edit-time" and "run-time"?

Hi:

I don't understand the meanings of "run-time" and "edit-time" in Teststand? Can someone help to explain them? Thanks!

Edit time means when you are creating/modifing your sequence using an editor (like the NI Sequence Editor).

Run time means if your sequence is currently execution, aka "running".

Both terms refer to sequence(s)/sequence file(s). A sequence which is currently running is also called "Execution" (terminology a bit tricky here sometimes, but as a general rule, this is true).

The main difference is that "running" will e.g. create a lock on the code modules included in your sequence(s), depending on the step settings. There are also differences like presence of certain "runstate properties" during run time.

hope this helps,

Norbert

The TestStand Help does contain a glossary for defining terms:

TestStand Glossary

However, we do not define "edit time" vs "run time" on this page. I'll add these definitions.
