Why can't I deploy the NI-DAQmx 8.5 drivers with a Teststand installer?

When I include the NIDAQmx 8.5 drivers with the deployment, it automatically checks off that I have to include Labview 7.1 runtime, which causes them to prompt me for the November 2005 driver CD. I insert this CD and get the errors saying that the Windows SDK function could not find the specified file (error code 12) and that the specified files are not found. The build is then quickly aborted and I'm left with seemingly no options. I need to include the DAQmx drivers with the build but I can't see how to without the LV 7.1 runtime.

I am running Teststand 4.0 and Labview 8.2.1

Thanks very much in advance.

Good afternoon, Matt!

Thanks for contacting National Instruments!

You should probably try re-installing your DAQmx drivers, including support for the runtime engine in question.  It seems odd to me that the inclusion of DAQmx 8.5 would prompt for a November 2005 installation CD... including the runtime engine in your newest driver installation should point to a newer source than 2005.  You may also try copying the driver CD over to your hard drive before reinstallation and executing the installer from there.  After doing so, ensure that the TestStand Deployment Utility points to the appropriate installation folder.

You can also get the runtime engine from our Drivers and Updates page if you'd like to try installing that separately from your Driver CD.

Let us know how these tests go!

Thank you very much for your response.

I have tried your suggestions, but I believe the problem is not specifically the DAQmx 8.5 drivers. It seems to have to do with the fact that when I select the drivers to be included in the deployment, Labveiw 7.1.1 runtime engine is checked off and grayed out, because it says it is required by the DAQmx 8.5 drivers. Please see the attached screenshot for detailed information.

Your suggestion about downloading the runtime engines seemed like a viable solution, but unfortunately there are many versions but not the one I need. The only 7.1.1 version available says it's for Mac OS, and I'm running Windows XP. Again, I have the actual CD it's asking for (Driver CD from November 2005) but it doesn't seem to satisfy the deployment.

Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is something I will need now and going forward in the future with Labview/Teststand deployments for my company since we rely heavily on the DAQmx drivers.

Thank you very much.

Matt,

Just to clarify, I know you said that you tried my suggestions, but did you uninstall and reinstall the driver and runtime engine?  It is expected behavior that inclusion of the DAQmx driver will automatically include the LabVIEW runtime engine and all other files upon which it depends; now all we have to do is get the deployment tool to recognize the location of the runtime engine / other files it is trying to find.  When you insert the driver CD, does it allow you to browse to a location of the files?

Also, was there ever a point in time when you built an installer and then ran that installer on the same computer?

Lastly, for your reference, the LabVIEW 7.1.1 runtime engine for Windows can be found here.

Hi-

Thanks again for your response. Sorry for taking a few days to get back, but I didn't see the email that said a reply was posted. Anyways, no I have never built an installer and deployed on the same computer. I made that mistake about a year back and had to reformat to clear the errors in the registry.

I did the uninstall and reinstall of the drivers. This did not solve the problem. Also, when I put the device drivers CD in, it doesn't allow me to search through for the files (it's automatic search since it's during the deployment build process). The problem seems to be that the CD I'm putting in doesn't have the files it needs. I am going to try the link for the drivers you provided and point to that during the build and see if that solves the problem. That seems like the best bet.

Currently, for a temporary fix I am using NI-DAQmx runtime 5 in the build, as this runtime doesn't require the Labview 7.1.1 runtime engine which is the one prompting for the November CD. I will let you know what happens when I try it.

Additionally, since the initial post I have upgraded from Labview 8.2.1 to Labview 8.5. I don't think this plays any role in this but I thought you'd want it for your records. Thanks very much.

Matt,

Thanks for your update.  I'll be anxious to hear the results of your test with the downloading of the LabVIEW RTE.  Will you keep us posted either way?  If you're not able to point the deployment to the downloaded 7.1.1 RTE that is required, we'll work from there.

Well, got caught up in the project and had to meet a deadline so I haven't had a chance to post back as to what has happened. The problem was fixed when I upgraded to NI-DAQmx 8.6

I don't know what was wrong with 8.5, but all the problems went away with the upgrade. Thanks for the help...
