AIT ARINC 429 Add-On Feedback

Hi Adam,

I just set up a system here and deployed and undeployed 20 times without issues. I did wire things up and try changing data and that didn't cause the issue to occur. My software was alomst identical with a few exceptions:

  1. I used NI VeriStand 2012 f2, where as you used NI VeriStand 2012.
  2. I used NI Switch 4.8, where as you used NI Switch 4.4
  3. I could not install NI Scan Engine 4.0 to the target becasue that has a dependency on NI-RIO, which you do not have installed on the target. In fact, I don't know how you installed NI Scan Engine 4.0 without installing NI-RIO.
  4. I used NI DAQmx 9.8, where as you used NI DAQmx 9.7

To get us in sync, can you try:

  1. installing the f2 patch for NI VeriStand 2012 on your host and target?
  2. Uninstalling NI Switch from your target (you wont need it to test ARINC)
  3. Uninstalling NI Scan Engine 4.0 from your target (you wont need it to test ARINC)
  4. Upgrading to DAQmx 9.8 on your host and target. This will take the most ammount of time, so save this for last.

If you continue to see the issue with identical hardware and software... I suggest we start swaping hardware. First the controller, then the ARINC 429 board.

I am using Veristand 2011SP1 and have the AIT 429 board purchased through NI. When I first installed the card and deployed to our 1042 PXI RT target I got error -2. I found the serial number and entered it in the definition file and now get -4 error. Any ideas?

Update the card firmware to the latest using the 4.6 SDK on AIT website.

I upgraded the firmware using AIT 4.6 and get the same -4 error. Does anyone know what this error means?

Have you power cycled the chassis entirely? Power completly off and back on.

If you still get the error, can you give me the error information from the console? visit the IP address with your web browser and copy paste out of there.

I tried to load a new database in Veristand and when it didn't load I deleted the AIT Custome Device. Now when I try and add the AIT Custome Device I get the error.

Hi bassinbc,

The -4 error says "Invalid channel number" which means your database is addressing a channel that doesn't exist on your hardware. For example, your database could be specifying 10 channels of hardware but your card only has 4.

The error you see in the custom device (the screenshot) is due to an installation error. I would clear out the contents of the "custom devices" directory in the NI VeriStand 2013 directory and reinstall the custom device. You must have two copies of it in there accidentally. make sure to follow the install directions for the custom device exactly.

Thanks

Hey Stephen - been a while but finally had some time today to try out your last instrustions which was to update MAX to 9.8 host/target, Veristand F2 patch host/taget, removal of NI Switch and removal of NI Scan Engine.  This was in regards to the CPU getting pegged during undeployment.  So performed all those steps and still saw the same result.  Your last communication pointed to swapping out hardware, is that still the path we should take next?  Also any value in trying the AIT card is a different slot? Currently its in slot#2.

OK so then the only difference was our hardware. Thanks for testing that.

Slot shouldn't matter, but you can try it. I'm looking into options for getting a loaner and will get back to you.

Thanks for your patience.

No problem thanks for all your help. Tried the slot location for the heck of it and still saw the same issue.
