New member introduction

Hello All,

I'm a Newcastle-based, jack of all trades, master of none, test engineer who first got introduced to LabVIEW about 5 years ago via a couple of members of this group. I've worked with LabVIEW in a production and R&D enviroment from data management in SQL databases to control software for high pressure equipment. Currently trying to get to grips with Teststand. I've been a bit lazy with my LabVIEW certification over the years but finally got my CLAD scheduled in. Not really been that active in the community but interested to see what NOBLUG is all about and contribute where I can 🙂

Hi all,

Richard Thomas, LabVIEW Champion, CLA. Worked with LabVIEW since birth, pretty much. Based in Durham but serving the nation, I now work for Konrad Technologies UK solving all manner of production and R&D challenges for a wide range of sectors. Great to see a new user group in my area, I used to run the CLUG (Cambridge) user group years ago, so happy to provide input to NoBLUG. Will try to attend every event, where possible!

Hi all!

I'm Steve Willoughby, based in Sheffield and responsible for supporting Northern Europe with NI parts via Farnell. I've been at Farnell for 18months but previously I was the hardware design lead at.  Austin Consultants. I have previously held a CLD cert but that expired a while ago. I first started using LabVIEW in 2007 at Uni and I've worked with / around it since.

I'm happy to support the community however I can!

Hello all,

My name is Luke Jefferies and I'm a Consultant at Frazer-Nash Consultancy based up in Newcastle but working all over. My background is in Electronic and Electrical Engineering but recently I've been doing a bit of everything from OT Cybersecurity to Risk Management.

I've been using National Instruments hardware and software since 2015 when I was an Intern at NI, and I have been a CLD since 2016. Since joining FNC, I have been quite heavily involved in our small scale HiL test system capability, primarily using VeriStand and PXI, and I have been able to use LabVIEW on the odd project where I can. I haven't been using it as much as I'd like to recently but I do like to keep up to date and a user group pretty much on my doorstep is about as good as it gets!

I'm hoping to come along to the next meeting where I'll be able to meet you all in person!

Hi all,

I am Jason Appleby (JJ). I am a Systems Engineer for BAE Systems over at their Prestwick site. I have been developing with LabVIEW since 2012 and between 2014 and 2024 was part of Austin Consultants in their Sheffield Office.

I took the brave move to cross the border and become an adopted Scot in 2025 and have been loving my time up here ever since.

My current role does not utilise the NI Suite at the moment but I am keen to keep on top of my expertise in the field and network with like minded individuals.

I have previously held the CLA certification and I am trying to build up to get enough points to recertify without the need of exams. Also enjoyed a trip to Krakow for the CLA summit in 2019.

In my previous role I worked with many customers across a range of fields from defence, food production and home appliances to name a few. This utilised many of NI's hardware configurations such as cDAQ, cRIO, PXI etc. My role encompassed building both software and hardware to develop solutions for customers across the whole of the UK and even further on some occasions.

I have been part of the Sheffield LabVIEW User Group in the past and I am keen to see how other User Groups look and run. I am happy to help where possible and to try and attend any meet ups we have.

In my downtime, I enjoy hiking the hills of Scotland (with my wee family including our two dogs) and I am trying to visit all the Loch's up this way, but there are over 30k so I should get cracking on with that. I do also enjoy cycling no matter the weather.

Thanks,

JJ
