Good news, people! After about a year since the Emerson Acquisition, NI has begun discussions with User Group leadership around the country and they chose our group to kick start what they see as a way to keep the excitement going about all things LabVIEW in the Detroit Metro area. We are currently planning (this is TENTATIVE) on meeting at the new NI Facility in Novi for our next User Group Meeting (with lunch provided of course). They do want to make a big splash with this so they are thinking for this meeting only that they want to expand this beyond the usual two hour lunch and learn, so people can see the facility, hear a little about what NI is planning, and meet with the people making this happen. Longer term plans include finding a possibly more central location for meetings (for those that feel that meeting in Novi makes these meetings difficult to attend).
Please feel free to let me know what you think about this in a reply and share your ideas with me.

I'm up for for attending at NI's facility. I don't know if I'm up for it long term...
Will this be online in addition to in-person?

I feel the same way. I find remote sessions harder to engage in, but a 2 to 3 hour time commitment with driving included is hard to do too. I'd certainly make it a priority to come to the first one, but after that it would be harder to justify.

The idea here is to get the meetings started again in person, but NI understands how remote has been working from a logistical standpoint. I will be working to ensure at least the presentation and discussion will be provided as a teams meeting.

For physical meetings the plan is to find a location more central to the membership so those that want to attend can do so. I would host meetings at Aptiv in Troy (Square Lake and Crooks) but we have the "open collaboration" model of office layout and all of the meeting rooms designated available to outside visitors are busy all of the time. We may have to find a school or other facility that we can meet in, or just host the physical meetings in Novi and still have the online session for us economically minded folks. I figure if we can satisfy the "meet in person" people and NI's desire to be able to find out where the community is heading, those of us that prefer an easy commute (or none at all) can still attend when the subject matter is interesting or otherwise compelling.

I think the June 2024 in-person meeting has been pushed back to August?
I like the idea of having one in-person event once a year and remote for the other events. I'd say in-person would be best in spring or fall when people aren't on vacation and the weather isn't as bad.

Becky,
You are correct, and I apologize for taking so long to get back to you. The meeting will be held physically and virtually on August 7th from the new NI office in Novi. Here's a registration link - > Salesforce Link for registration
NI (and especially Elijah Kerry) has been very supportive and patient with us as we find time to make this happen. I know a lot of the members in the Detroit Metro area have wanted to resume in person meetings (they know who they are) so I hope this satisfies their need. Personally, the fewer hours I spend at the mercy of the Michigan Transportation Department (potholes and barricade division) and in the sights of my fellow Michigander drivers the better, and that is why I too prefer virtual meetings.
