Can I upgrade the hard drive in the 8170 controller?

I have an 8170 controller and am wondering if it is possible to upgrade the internal hard drive.  If so, would a regular 2.5" laptop hard drive work?  What would be the largest hard drive that the 8170 could deal with?

I know this is possible for the 8171+, but it seems as if the 8170 is constructed differently and the hard drive is more difficult to access.

Hey Megan,

You should be able to use a 2.5" laptop harddrive. For size, you should be fine getting a large harddrive, but if you were to run into any problems because of size, you can use a program called Disk Manager by Ontrack.

If you would like, you can even add a solid start harddrive such as the following KB mentions:
