I'm looking at taking a system we currently run a couple of multipfunction DAQs and a counter/timer PCI card and moving to a PXI system. Is this something I can expect little changes in my software (outside of the daqmx calls)? Or will this end up being a total rewrite. We are looking at taking away some custom electronics and replace with some PXI module functionality. I don't need realtime...but the machine will need to be able to read/write to our network drive.

Use the PXI version of your PCI cards and there will be very little change (only the initialization to make sure you are pointing to the right card(s)). If you use a different board model, then you may have to change some of your hardware to correct some routing. But it sounds like you are already changing hardware, so this should not be a concern.

I don't have a problem making minor changes, as we will likely need to get some different versions (i.e. need more counters, would like relays instead of digital IOs, etc.). I'm just confused at how the embedded OS works with this, and want to make sure there aren't any programming changes needed.

You can get PXI controllers with Windows installed.
