Data acquisition devices not displaying under the chassis in MAX after updating NI drivers

Solved!
Go to solution

We are using a PXI-1031 chassis and 3 PXI-6143 devices for our Geometrics MetalMapper. Also the chassis only appears in MAX as "unidentified" and PXI-1031 is not displayed in the list in "Identify As"

What version of DAQmx did you upgrade to?

According to here ( NI-DAQmx and NI-DAQ Driver Support: PCI/PXI Devices), the latest version that supports the PXI-6143 is 9.5.1.

Ok, troubleshoot the stupid things first.

Did you reboot your computer?  Was the PXI chassis plugged into the computer and turned on before the computer was turned on?

That's the place to start alright...

Yes, the computer was rebooted and tes the PXI Chassis was plugged into the computer before it was turned on...

It actually remained plugged in during the uninstall and the installation of 9.2.2... do you think that could cause a problem?

To clarify:  The chassis was plugged into the computer and turned on during uninstall of older version, reboot, re-install, and a second reboot

After re-reading my initial post I realized I didn't mention that the 3 data acquisition devices (3 X PXI-6143's) do show up in MAX but do not appear under a chassis.

Before the uninstall of the previous version, the devices appeared in MAX under the expanded Chassis menu.

As well, the chassis would appear as "PXI-1031 DC "Chassis 1"

Hello,

Are you using a MXI connection or an embedded controller? Are ou using Windows XP or Windows 7? Have you tried resetting the MAX Database (note if you use MAX to create custom task, they will be erased by doing this, you can however create an export file for them and then re-import them after the database re set.)

Thanks for your reply...umm...PeanutButterOven 🙂

After looking into information you requested for our controller, we realized that we had an incorrect model number for our controller.

After we determined the correct model number (NI PXI-8108), we were able to assign it to the Unidentified PXI System from the "Identify As" drop down list in MAX > My System > Devices and Interfaces and then select our chassis model number (PXI-1031DC).

After we did this, a new object was automatically created called PXI-1031DC "Chassis 1" and our devices were automatically populated in a drop down list from this chassis object.

Thanks for you help!

We are now experiencing a new issue with our custom software which seems to be related to not finding .NET drivers even though they exist on our computer.  This appears to be a separate problem and we will post this to a new discussion if we get stuck.

Thanks again
