Formatting PXI-8196 Target using a USB Drive

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello Everybody,

I am using a PXI chassis with PXI-8196 controller and several PXI DAQmx cards. I need to Format the Hard Drive on the PXI Target and reinstall the RT OS as well as all the other software. I am trying to reboot the PXI with a Bootable USB drive but it is not giving me the option to Format the Hard Disk.

Following are the steps that I have followed.

1. I have created the bootable disk with MAX using RT Disk Utilities>Create Desktop PC Utility USB Drive (PXI 8196 does not have a floppy drive hence I have to use a USB drive)

2. I have connected a keyboard and a monitor to the Target to see it boot up.

3. I have also adjusted the boot sequence such that the boot option "USB HDD: LEXAR JUMPDRIVE SPORT" among the available ones in the boot sequence has the highest priority. (My USB is a LEXUS USB so I am pretty sure that this particular option needs to be the first in the sequence).

4. But once I boot my system. It does not the give me the option to format (According to the documentation in MAX it should give me an option to "Format Hard Disk") . Following is what I see on the monitor connected to the target

====== =====The output on the screen is enclosed between these two rails===================

Booting safe mode from ROM...

Entering safe mode.

IP address is: 10.10.10.2

_

 ===========================================================================

The cursor in the last end keeps blinking and nothing happens

5. The IP address 10.10.10.2 is the address that it has in the current configuration that I want to format and reinstall. So I am not sure if it supposed to automatically retain the previous IP address.

6. To rule out the fact that the there might be something wrong with the USB Drive, I have repeated the whole procedure with a different USB drive. But the exact same thing happens again.

Please help in me reboot it with a USB and Format the Hard Disk and Reinstall all the software.

Thanking in anticipation,

Vivek.

Hi,

Try this, in the BIOS of PXI , under LabVIEW RT go to boot configuration, change the option to Windows/other OS. Then try what you are doing.

let me know if this works for you
