Hardware Malfunction by installing USB-Card

Hallo,

when I'm trying to install a ekf USB-Card (http://www.ekf.com/c/cusb/cusb.html) into my NI PXI-1045 Rack a error (bluescreen) occurs during the driver-install at the windows start process:

Hardware Malfunction Call your hardware vendor for support

NMI: Parity check / Memory Parity Error

*** The system has halted ***

I changed the card, the card's position in the rack and the pc, but there was always the same error.

Is this a known problem of the pxi-rack or do you habe any workarounds that could help to solve the problem?

Thanks!

Marco

My system:

Pentium 4 CPU 3.60GHz

2GB RAM

Windows XP Professional

Service Pack 2

Hello Marco,
I need more information about this issue.
Are you using a PXI - controller (if yes which one) or MXI Connection (if yes which board)?
What do you mean with driver? Do you mean driver from NI or driver from EKF?
Would you please explain to me exactly your installing procedure?

Best regards

Hello AmirG,
thanks for your reply! My PXI-Rack is connected via a Hartmann Elektronik CompactPCI - PCI Bridge card (http://www.hartmann-elektronik.de/en/products/expansion/the_bridge_cards/) to my PC.
My system ist working fine without the usb-controller. The bluescreen occurs every time the usb-controller card is integrated in the PXI-Rack and windows installs the standard usb-controller driver at the boot up process. The tray-icon shows that windows tries to install the drivers.
Greetings

Hello Marco,
could you please try following installing procedure:
1)    power- down all Systems
2)    remove the usb board from PXI 1045
3)    start you PC
4)    now, install ekf driver
5)    shut down all systems
6)    insert you EKF board into PXI 1045 Chassis slot
7)    first start the NI 1045 and then your PC

Does the board work properly after the installing procedure above?
If not, do you have another ekf board to test it? A hardware defect could be also a reason for this behaviour.

Best regards,
Amir

Hello Amir,
I asked the ekf-support for a driver, but there aren't special drivers for the usb-device.
But I figured out something new. When I put the card in the first bus segment of the rack, it works.
The error occurs only in the other two segments. In my prior test, I didn't test the first segment.
What would you say, is this a problem of the usb-controller or of the pxi-rack?
Greetings
Marco

Hello Marco,
it is difficult to say, which system(usb board or pxi) does not work properly.
I think it should be helpful to get another ekf usb board to test it. If another board works fine in all pxi slots, please contact ekf for usb support. In another way please contact National Instruments to get additional information about repairing instruction.

Best regards,
AmirG
