How do I configure a PXI-8106 RT controller with Traditional DAQ channels?

Solved!
Go to solution
I have some boards that are not DAQmx compatible, and don't show up in MAX (4.6). I would like to configure them for Traditional DAQ, but if following the instructions (Tools/Traditional DAQ/Remote Configuration) the error "Error connecting to the remote machine XXX. Make sure the RDA server is running on the remote machine and that both computers are connected to the internet." They are connected with a cross cable, and the machine comes up in MAX. I can run the RDA server on the local machine, but see no way to start it on the remote RT controller. Right-clicking on the machine in MAX and saying "Create New" does not have the option of Traditional DAQ, only DAQmx items. And MAX takes forever with this controller, and crashes frequently... I have made sure that the software on the controller matches that of the local machine (LV 2009 with RT).

LaurelA,

Thank you for posting on the NI Forums. It would appear that if you cannot see the devices in MAX then you don't have the driver installed on your computer. I would recommend to install the Traditional DAQ 7.4.4 driver on your Windows machine, then you can install the T-DAQ driver on your RT system. From there you should be able to see your T-DAQ devices under your remote systems.

You obviously didn't read the whole message. I can see everything in MAX fine, Traditional DAQ 7.4.4 is installed on both the RT computer and the Windows XP computer, I even reinstalled just to make sure. I can see the devices in MAX, only 4 cards under DAQmx, all cards under PXI system Devices. I just can't generate any Traditional DAQ devices! And I absolutely Must!

LaurelA-

Have you had a chance to look at the KnowledgeBase Article: How do I Install and Configure Traditional NI-DAQ Devices in LabVIEW Real-Tim... It is a really good document describing in detail how to get T-DAQ to work correctly. Please post back if any of the steps don’t make sense or if it is still not working as you expect it to.
