Hi Prabhakant
Based on the MXI-Express datasheet and the MXI-4 Series User Manual "The PCI specification makes provisions for up to 255 bus segments to simultaneously exist in a PCI hierarchy and MXI-4 hardware provides everything needed to support those provisions."
I'll get back to you after speaking to a specialist.
Kind Regards

Hi Again
So the 255 bus segments is a theoretical maximum set out in the PXI specification. Each PXI chassis will use at-least 1 of these, often 3-4. Assuming that your motherboard fully implements the PCI standard and supports 255 bus segments then how many units you can daisy chain depends upon the number of bus segments used by each chassis.
Thanks

If you're talking about PXI Express, the number of buses required by a chassis goes up significantly. MXI Express and an 18-slot chassis can require around 35 bus numbers. Also, many PCs set a limit on bus numbers at 127 or even 63. Others may limit bus numbers of a particular slot to a fixed range (like 32).
MXI Express for PXI (not PXIe) will use 2-4 bus numbers per hop. The PXI chassis will use 2 (18-slot).
