Is NI PXI 8196 capable of receiving a timing signal from the GPS (IRIG B)?

Can the data be timestamped that is coming out of NI PXI 8196? (In micro second accuracy).

Hi anjanperl,

Do you have any timing cards?  This would work better than using the TRIG line on the 8196.  The 668x series of cards includes support for GPS signals.  If you are using a RT controller, you'll need the 665x series of cards, which doesn't include support for GPS, but we can timestamp the signal in software

I dont have any timing cards. What is this TRIG line on 8196? How does this work for my purpose? I am using labview real time for modeling. I input TCP/IP string data to PXI 6733 and take out analog output from it.

Hi anjanperl,

The TRIG input for the chassis is designed for use with the RT Watchdog, if you have a real-time controller.  In other words, this input is not designed for this use, which is why we recommend the timing cards.

Note, if you want to use the 6682 under RT, There's an NI-Sync 3.1 beta that's public and adds the OS support
