Multiple controllers into a PXI system

Hi all,
I´m designing a control system based on the PXI real-time hardware. At the moment the system includes a PXI-8106 RT controler into a 14 rack chassis with more I/O cards, FPGAs... Is there any possibility of using a multi-controller system (not cRIO), by combining several chassis, each of them with it´s own Real-Time controller (PXI-8106 RT or other) and running different parts of the control algorithm, but sharing data between them? A kind of multiprocessor system.

Hi Joxe,

I hope you are well.  This looks like a very interesting application.  To help you synchronise your two PXI chassis, I would recommend that you take a look at a useful link, which is stated below.

With regards to the sharing of data, between the two chassis, this can be done via Ethernet, however, I would suggest that you use a high speed cable for this.

To select your shared variable to be time triggered, if you can open “LabVIEW” and then open “Empty Project”.  Right click on “My Computer” and select New >> Variable.  This will open a “Shared Variable Properties” window.  In the “Variable Type” box, select “Time Triggered”.

I'd also like to recommend http://www.ni.com/multicore/ as a solid, additional resource for multicore considerations.

Best of luck with your application and I hope this helps.
