NI ExpressCard-8360 problem installing on DELL latitude D830

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi,

When installing a NI ExpressCard-8360 with our PXI chassis I have problems and cannot get it to work.

I have been following the installation procedures closely, but when Windows booted, it wasn't able to install both PCI Standard PCI-to-PCI bridge.  I managed to boot and installed manually.  The second PCI bridge, Windows indicates error Code 12 insufficent resource allocated to the device.  I tried making inactive some resources in the BIOS, it didn't help.  I tried disabling some driver using resources, it didn't help. I updated the BIOS from version A13 to A14, it didn't help.  I am about out of ideas.  Help!!!

Please note that this laptop is working just fine with NI PC Card 8310 bridge with the same PXI chassis.  We acquired the NI ExpressCard-8360 to speed the transfer of large data set between the PXI chassis A/D board and the laptop.

WOW!!!

I found the solution.  I found this knowledge base "MXI-Express General Setup/Compatibility Issues and Solutions" (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/81CBF2F7F0BAEDBD86257330000514DF?OpenDocument) that suggested to remove NI CardBus/8310 driver to fix Code 12 issue.  Having tried everything else, Eh!! Why not try it.  And it works perfectly now.

WOW!! that  NI CardBus/8310 driver is a bad boy.  Please note I didn't have the Cardbus board plug in, yet the driver still prevented the PCI-ExpressCard to work well.  Weird!!!

Hope this discussion helps someone else.
