6552 closed loop triggering with external instrument

DAC Closed Loop Issue.

I wish to use the PCI-6552 to load incremental codes to my DUT.  After each code is loaded I wish to then Trigger an external instrument.  The HP3458A in this case, but the principle is the same for any instrument.  When the measurement is complete I want the “Measurement Complete” signal of the HP3458A to trigger the 6552 I/O card to load the next code and so on.  Timing is very important in this closed loop system.    Configuring the HP3458A is not a problem and I’ve written code to do a similar closed loop using an older I/O card.  I thought I could connect the “Measurement Complete” signal to the Strobe signal of the 6552 card, but I’m getting an error saying that the Strobe source terminal is only applicable for acquisition modes.   So an option would be to generate all my codes up front, using a standard loop.  So for a serial write I might have 76 bits of data for one code.  I could use one of the other I/O signals to add a trigger at say code 99, allowing enough time for the DUT to settle.  For a 12 bit DAC I would required 4096 codes etc, at a length of 100 serial bits.  In this case I would like my “measurement complete” signal to transfer 100 bits of the data for each code.  Is CLK-IN and option instead?  I’ve tried this too but I get an error saying that I’ve to set my clock rate first.  If so how do I translate 1 “measurement complete” pulse to 100 clock cycles.     Any help appreciated.Michael Collins
