NI MAX failing to detect PXI 1045 Chassis and PXI 8362 card after installing MXI Express BIOS Compatibility Software

Hello everyone,

I am having some trouble with NI MAX detecting some of my instruments.

I had a complete working setup, however there was an issue with the PC. It failed to reboot. When restarting the PC, it would simply have a black screen and fail to power up. If forced shut down with the power button, it would power back up as intended. I was advised by one of my colleagues that switching DIP switch to Mode 1 on the PCIe card would rectify this.

It did, the PC would now restart with no issues, however NI MAX could now not see the instruments (PXI 1045 Chassis, PXI 8362, PXI 6509 etc. Reverting it back resulted in MAX working again but the PC failing to restart. So I did more searching and found NI MXI-Express BIOS Compatibility software.

https://www.ni.com/en/support/documentation/release-notes/product.mxi-express-bios-compatibility.htm...

After reading some of the threads and bug fixes, I thought this would solve my problem.

Unfortunately, since installing, MAX cannot see my instruments. I toggled the DIP switch as advised in the setup guide, I've tried it without it being toggled, I'm ensuring that the chassis is powered before the PC etc. I have tried uninstalling the BIOS compatibility, trying to toggle the DIP switch with this too and I've also swapped the PCIe 8362 card in the PC. The connection to the PXI 8362 from the PCIe card, I have ensured that the connector is the right way up.

To further complicate, I have tried another new PC, which is the same spec as the 'broken' one, and it detects the instruments, its the same setup. So this pinpoints it being a PC issue.

If anyone has any idea where to move forward with this or if you have had a similar issue before, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks 🙂

Hey there!

The first thing you can try is to reset the configuration data in MAX. To do this, go to Tools >> Reset Configuration Data. Afterwards, reboot the PC. You will want to set all the dip switches to the default position- installing PXI platform services may help (linked below).

If that doesn’t work, uninstall all the drivers and then reinstall. If you can get the computer to boot, make sure you have your chassis properly identified in MAX. Right click on the chassis and click “identify as”, then select your chassis model. You may want to reset your computer BIOS to default settings or update it to the latest version.

Hope this helps!
