NI's PXI-1042 remote login

Hey Paul,

Assuming you have everything else set up exactly as in the KnowledgeBase articles above, try setting the IP addresses/default gateway/subnet mask to the values I set my devices to and see if this works. You shouldn't have to have the machines in the same workgroup (I didn't in my test). You say that file sharing works between machines, so how exactly are you sharing files between them?

Thanks for the response, we were able to get the remote login to work.  I thin the subnetmask value I was using before was blocking the port.  Anyhow we need to do a bit more.  We have one labview program running on our pc and at specific stages of the program we want to send a command with arguments to a labview program running on the PXIs pc and then continue with the program on the pc after the operation on the PXIs pc was complete.  Thinking of possibly setting up a data socket.  Do you know if we would need to set one up on both machines?  Possibly one that listens for a command on the PXIs PC.

Paul.

Are you running two LabVIEW applications on both machines?  If so you could use network published shared variables for communication.  Also if you want to use datasocket take a look at this tutorial.
